Burger protesters demand police action on Bersih 2.0

The organisation calling itself Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Alliance (Ikhlas), or better known as the "burger protesters", is demanding that those involved in the Bersih 2.0 steering committee be punished.

Ikhlas is claiming losses amounting to RM817,205 by its members, which it wants the organisers of last year's Bersih 2.0 rally as well as those behind the Umno Youth Patriot rally held on the same day to pay.

A memorandum on this was handed over to the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today, protesting the inaction of the police on last year's July 9 rallies.

NONEIkhlas members set up a burger stall outside Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan's house on May 10 and gave away about 200 burgers to protesttheir alleged losses during the Bersih 3.0 rally.

Ikhlas chief Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah (above) said action should first be taken against those involved in the Bersih 2.0 rally, since that rally was illegal, while the Bersih 3.0 held this year was peaceful in nature.
'Ambiga and Khairy must pay'

"Bersih 2.0 was illegal, while Bersih 3.0 was peaceful. So why hasn't action been taken against those involved with Bersih 2.0?" Ridzuan asked.

Ridzuan explained that the group was focusing on the claims relating to Bersih 2.0 first, since the situation with Bersih 3.0 was less clear and information was still being gathered.

NONEThe members of Ikhlas went on to demand compensation for the traders from both Ambiga and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

"Ambiga should take responsibility as a leader to compensate the traders. If she gives a thousand ringgit, we will accept it.

"If she gives one hundred ringgit, we will also accept it," Ridzuan said.

He defended the burger protest again today, saying that Ambiga "had to be taught a lesson" so as to prevent another Bersih rally being held.

"I promise you, if Bersih 4.0 is held after the elections, the country will not be at peace," he added.
