Gov't doesn't own Merdeka Day, the people do
YOURSAY 'Merdeka Day is the prerogative of the government? Wow, silly me. And I thought it belonged to the rakyat and the nation.'
Perkasa: 'Janji Ditepati' a universal slogan
TheSilentMajority: What a distorted view of the world indeed - Merdeka Day is the prerogative of the government?
You mean the government owns Merdeka Day? Wow, silly me. And I thought it belonged to the rakyat and the nation. Thanks for that clarity of thought, Kulim-Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Noordin. Remind me not to call you for advice.
LittleGiant: Perkasa leaders are terribly myopic in their thinking and are a confused lot with Umno leaders as their mentors.
They cannot differentiate between fact and fiction, between reality and illusion. The fact is that there is nothing universal about the 55th Merdeka theme ‘Janji Ditepati'.
Countries around the world have themes for their national day events and celebrations focusing on their progress and future objectives.
National Day themes should boost the strength and confidence of all the people across the whole nation, irrespective of their political differences and beliefs.
The people should take pride in the theme, which ought to provide a positive impact among them and rejuvenate them to work in unison for the nation's development and progress.
‘Janji Ditepati'does not in any way fulfil the requirements of a national day theme. The theme is a deliberate attempt by BN to exploit for its own political needs, aimed at the next general election campaign.
Bert: Perkasa, can list out the countries that has 'Janji Ditepati' as their national theme?
Not Confused: Zulkifli is a hypocritical moron. The ‘Promises Fulfilled' slogan has been adopted by BN as its own and therefore in the context of the Merdeka Day celebration, it is blatant BN electioneering.
The good thing is that everyone else can see this except him - and BN will now suffer even more loss of support because of people like Zulkifli.
Zulkifli, you clearly don't see it, but worry not, as you are an irrelevance to the vast majority of us.
ABK: Zulkifli Noordin, what janji have you fulfilled to the people of Kulim? You jumped ship for personal gains and now you are trying to look good in BN. They will not consider you for a senator post.
Cantabrigian: We don't like the slogan, and who are you to force us to like it?
Tekee: Under the half coconut shell universe of Perkasa, it is both an universal slogan and an ineffable mantra.
Anonymous #29692505: Only the government which cannot realise what it had promised, needs this slogan to try to convince its people that it had honoured its promises.
Please list down what promises that the BN government had honoured so far in the past few years - we could not think of any.
We only see crime rates increase, national debt increase, petrol price increase, corruption scandals increase, racial issues increase, more hazardous projects approved...and the dissatisfaction of Malaysians increase.
Telestai!: Zul, the ‘janji' were made by BN, not the government. The government is merely the administrative body headed by BN representatives. As such, ‘Janji Ditepati' is a BN catchphrase to be used when campaigning at GE13.
Please do not confuse Merdeka Day with the general elections.
Skeat: If ‘Janji Ditepati'is a universal slogan, then what about the contents of the Merdeka theme song?
Why do the people have to ‘balas budi' (return the good deeds) to a government which they elected and are supposed to serve regardless of the support given?
Moontime: Yes, it is a universal slogan. However, when BN ‘hijacked' it to be used as slogan for the Merdeka celebrations, it automatically becomes a propaganda tool.
After 55 years of independence, why do we still hear Malaysians complaining about the lack of basic necessities like water and electricity? How come there are still schools in the rural areas without furniture and proper teaching tools?
Why do we still hear mega scandals involving BN politicians and brazen waste of taxpayers' money? With all these in mind, it's just not proper for the government to use that slogan at all.
Wira: Zukifli, the BN government robbed its citizens and gave them shitty deals while enriching themselves and their cronies.
If they want to continue to lie and cheat the voters with their 1Malaysia slogan for Umno and the rest of the parasitic component parties, do so at their own cost, I have no objection.
However, they must not be allowed to perpetuate this lie with our tax money in a national event. - Malaysiakini
