Suaram blames BN for replacing old Acts with ‘worse’ laws

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Human rights group Suaram today blamed the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) for passing new laws that are deemed more suppressive and are disrespectful to human rights and civil liberties.
“Parliament at the moment is dominated by BN. The laws passed so far are from the majority BN in Parliament,” Suaram adviser Dr Kua Kia Soong(picture) told a press conference today after the launch of Suaram’s 2011 human rights report here.
“So if you’re saying if it is the failure of a BN-dominated Parliament, then it is,” he said.
Kua referred to the “notorious” ISA (Internal Security Act), now abolished under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration, pointing out “it has been replaced by a law than is even more suppressive than the old one”.
