Chua has no right to speak about hudud, says mufti

MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has no right to speak about hudud as he has no expertise in Islamic jurisprudence, says Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria.

"Issues regarding religion are set. Do not criticise or belittle issues regarding faith because it only shows our insolence," Harussani is quoted as saying by Malay language daily Sinar Harian today.

He was commenting on Chua's statement last week on the effect of hudud should it be implemented, including a potential 1.2 million job losses.

The issue was also repeatedly raised during MCA's annual general meeting over the weekend.

Harussani said weak law enforcement was the reason why some political leaders have been vocal about hudud.

"This is our weakness," he is reported to have said. "The laws are in place, but not executed properly.

"As a citizen of this country, we should respect the constitution, including Islam's place as the official religion."
