Don’t let yourself to be provoked, Johor MB tells police

Abdul Ghani Othman says there will be some who will provoke the police in the run up to the next general election.
JOHOR BARU: Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman has reminded police personnel in the state to be wary of those who will blame the police for any issue in the next general election.
They must ensure that they did not succumb to provocation from these instigators to test their patience, he said.
“Based on experience, some groups will make the security forces the target of their accusations. I hope police officers and personnel will not fall into their trap,” he said at a state government appreciation dinner for the police, here, last night.
Also present was Johor Police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.
Abdul Ghani said the state government was confident the police would be able to handle all challenges during the general election.
The efficiency and patience of the police force was evident when they faced various challenges during the Tenang state by-election last year, and voting proceeded smoothly despite heavy rain and floods in some areas.
Abdul Ghani also said that security in the state would be at its best considering that the state police had maintained a reduction in the crime index over five years from 2008.
The police success was recognised through the compliments showered on them by various quarters, he said.
Abdul Ghani said the state government would continue to provide aid and support to the police to maintain security in the state, given the tremendous economic development taking place, including the Iskandar Malaysia development.
