EC launches GE13 portal

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 30 — An online portal was launched by the Election Commission (EC) today to disseminate information on the 13th general election (GE13).
The portal, located at www.pru13.gov.my, cost the EC less than RM100,000. It was developed and will be maintained by an outsourced private company.
“If there is an issue that was manipulated or misinterpreted, it will be clarified and corrected in the portal,” EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof told reporters during the portal launch here.
The portal promises to deliver up-to-date news on the election, including the results, which will be keyed in by the officer in charge of a polling station.
Registered voters also will be able to check the electoral roll, in the EC’s drive to clean the roll before the elections.
Project head Datuk P. Manogram declined to name the company that the portal was outsourced to, saying that it will be revealed later.
The RM100,000 spent on the portal was part of the RM400 million allocated to manage Election 2013, Abdul Aziz said.
The cost increased from RM250 million in the last election due to, among other reasons, the increasing number of voters and the allowance hike for poll workers.
