Selangor gov't to take over water supply in 14 days

The Selangor government will take over the state water service industry in two weeks, following the green light from Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“The state government has written to inform Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Kah Fui of the takeover in 14 days ... if the ministry does not respond, ” said Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim(left) in a statement today.

He quoted a recent statement by Muhyiddin that the federal government has no objection to the takeover. Muhyiddin also chairs the cabinet committee on water issue.

Khalid also said a preliminary investigation has found that Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) technical development executive director V Subramaniam had distributed leaflets that criticise the state government.

“Syabas published this leaflet without getting approval or informing the board of directors,” he said.

“Therefore, as a shareholder in Syabas, the state government urges that an internal investigation be carried out against Subramaniam for abusing his power.”
