Anwar: Kit Siang and Hadi may be DPM

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang may be appointed as deputy prime ministers if Pakatan Rakyat wins the next general election, said the PKR de facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim.

In an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, Anwar said that the Malaysian laws do not prevent the government from appointing two deputy prime ministers, but that Pakatan will respect the people's aspirations and act according to a democratic process.

However, Pakatan has not discussed further on the issue of deputy premiership, as they are more concerned about social issues and Pakatan's agenda, he added.

The opposition leader stressed that PAS will not be working with Umno after the general election for the sake of implementing the hudud law.

If Umno is sincere in implementing the Islamic penal code, it would have to form an alliance with PAS after previously suffering setbacks in the last general election, he explained.

He also assured that Pakatan will not be implementing the hudud law when it comes to power, since any policies made must abide by the federal constitution and agreed to by all three parties.

The Permatang Pauh MP is also confident that Pakatan will defeat BN with a slim majority, as the coalition has since made significant inroads in the states of Pahang, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
