Cinemas may have to play Negaraku beyond Sept 3

The government is considering extending the playing of the national anthem in cinemas beyond Sep 3, the Star reported.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek was quoted as saying that this will be decided after the government has reviewed the feedback it has received from movie-goers.

"We have only two days left before we stop playing the Negaraku at cinemas and we will study the feedbacks whether to extend the period, or to do it again next year," he was quoted as saying.

The Negaraku and a short patriotric film have been airing prior to the main feature in cinemas nationwide since Aug 28 as part of the 56th National Day celebration.

The campaign was supposed to run until Sep 3.
