Himpunan Hijau finally hits a million against Lynas

After months of aggressive campaigning, environmental group Himpunan Hijau has finally collected its targeted one million signatures in a bid to demand the closure of Lynas' rare earths processing plant in Gebeng, Kuantan.

NONEThe signature drive which first began in July had been sluggish until the movement's leader Wong Tack vowed to camp under a tree at Dataran Merdeka in the capital until they manage to hit their target.

A celebration broke out at Dataran Merdeka last night after Wong Tack declared that they have finally garnered the one million signatures after 36 days of staking out at the historical square.

Himpunan Hijau will call a press conference later today on the milestone.
The group is among several that have been opposing the plant over concerns of potential radiation pollution.
