Azizan's family accepts Muhyiddin's apology

SG LIMAU The family of the late Kedah menteri besar Azizan Abdul Razak has accepted Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s apology over his statement linking Azizan’s diabetes with the recent sugar subsidy cut.

NONESinar Harian reported that Azizan’s widow Faekah Sheikh Hamzah (left) said she believes that Muhyiddin’s statement, made during the Sungai Limau by-election campaign trail, may have been “misinterpreted”.

“I am prepared to forgive and believe that the statement may have been misinterpreted by some quarters to spread something that is not true,” she reportedly told the daily.

“We accept the explanation made by Muhyiddin through the media and our family has no issues with forgiving him if it is true that he has misspoken while campaigning.”

NONEMeanwhile,Berita Harianreported that Azizan’s son Muhammad Rafi’iy (seated, centre), who had held a press conference asking for an apology earlier, had also closed the book on the matter.

“Our family has forgiven Muhyiddin following his explanation, as well as that made by (Kedah MB) Mukhriz Mahathir, and I have made this known to Mukhriz.

“We urge that both contesting parties do not prolong the matter. My late father was someone who was respected by society, especially in Sungai Limau, and we hope he will continue to be respected after his death,” he said in a text message to the newspaper.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Muhyiddin expressed gratitude that his apology was accepted, which was conveyed to him by Rafi’iy himself via text message.

PAS’ Mohd Azam Abdul Samat is up against BN’s Mohd Suhaimi for the Sungai Limau state assembly seat, which fell vacant upon Azizan’s death.
