Netizens snipe at Zaiton over 'leave country' remark

Angry netizens have flooded Wanita Umno's Facebook page over Kuantan Wanita Umno chief Zaiton Mat's remark that those unhappy with BN's policies should leave the country.

Over the past 24 hours, angry messages, coupled with dodgy advertisements for sexual performance enhancers, began appearing on the page soon after news of Zaiton's remarks spread.

Many complainants said it was common for Umno leaders to dismiss their critics by asking them to migrate, but this sort of attitude was undemocratic.

"Malaysia belongs to all Malaysians and every citizen has the right to express their true feelings about what they feel the country needs.

"The government is chosen by the people, so what right do you all have to tell us to leave?" wrote Facebook user Jeff Jun Wei.

Another Facebook user by the name of Aris Sanusi wrote that Zaiton's remarks and similar ones made by other Umno leaders are causing more anti-BN sentiments.

"So keep on making 'kalau tak suka (if you don't like...)' statements. Continue to 'syok sendiri' and let's see where this goes.

"I've been supporting BN all my life, but for GE14, BN will definitely not get my vote. Enough is enough," he said.

Cheap publicity

Similarly, a Facebook user that went by the name Mageswaran Nair Murali Daran wrote that political leaders often say things for cheap publicity, but end up hurting their allies.

"Is it really that easy to give up one's citizenship? I hope Zaiton reads the relevant laws first," he wrote.

Zaiton's inflammatory remarks were made after lodging a police report against the so-called "Rally to topple the government" which the authorities claim will be organised on New Year's Eve at Dataran Merdeka.

There are two groups - Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun) and Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) - which have stated their intentions to mobilise the public to rally at the said time and venue.

However, both groups have stated that their purpose was to provide a platform for the public to express their disagreement over government policies which have raised the prices of basic necessities.
