One dead, one injured, one escapes in shootout with cops

KUALA LUMPUR: Police shot dead a robbery suspect and injured one while a third suspect managed to flee on foot during a break-in and robbery incident at Taman Bukit Seputeh here.
During the incident at about 4.30am Sunday, three men broke-into a house at Persiaran Syed Putra 18 and tied up three victims, the owner, his wife and their daughter.
City police deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa said the three suspects did not realise the son of the owner in his 20s, was also in the house.
“The son managed to call our operations room to inform us that they were being robbed and the suspects were still in the house,” he told reporters at the scene.
ACP Khairi said after receiving the report, police then forwarded the message to their response team who happen to be in the area in the area at the time.
“At about 4.50am, our team arrived at the scene and one of them managed to sneak in to monitor and observe what was going on the house,” he said adding that the officer saw a suspect bringing out a victim at gunpoint forcing the victim to open auto-gate of the house.
“After victim had opened the auto-gate, the suspect brought the victim into the house and let him go. After the gate was opened, our officer who managed to sneak in saw the suspects running out of the house and started shooting at our officers.
“The officers had identified themselves as police but instead of surrendering, one of the suspects continued to fire causing our officers to return fire,” he said.
ACP Khairi said the four officers who shot at the suspects managed to hit two suspects who both collapsed on each side of a black BMW driven by the suspects that was parked about eight metres away from the house.
He added that both suspects who were shot were sent to University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) while the third suspect managed to flee on foot.
“One of the suspects believed to be aged 20 was declared dead with a shot to head while another suspect in his 30s is in critical condition. We are still looking for one more suspect who managed to flee,” he added.
ACP Khairi added that checks by police showed that the injured suspect had seven previous criminal records involving drugs and theft while the suspect who managed to escape was believed to have carried cash robbed from the victims.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971 and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
ACP Khairi added that police also recovered a Walter 9mm pistol that was used by one of the suspects. - Star
