Rafizi mocks cops with 'fake email' contest

PKR strategist Rafizi Ramli will organise a "fake email competition" in view of police investigations into an email about acts of terrorism that he had purportedly received.

He said that the targets of the competition are Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar and Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Amar Singh.

The most creative and interesting email will receive RM1,000, which will come out from Rafizi's pocket.

This "competition" was his response to the police's attempt to pin him to an email which claimed that "several minor explosions" will go off during a rally on the night of December 31 at Dataran Merdeka.

The email – published in full by Mingguan Malaysia today - was purportedly written by Abdul Rahim Ghause, once considered a confidante to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim. Abdul Rahim has denied writing the email.

Following this, the Dang Wangi district police had summoned Rafizi for questioning this morning.

A bad joke

Met at the police station, Rafizi considered the entire episode a "joke" and he will now come out with one of  his own.

"You waste public money, you waste everyone’s time... So okay, let's take the Mickey out of this. We’ll do a competition of the most creative fake email, (let's) see how many of them which will be investigated by the police," he added.

Details of the competition will be announced tomorrow.

The purported email had been in heavy circulation among pro-Umno bloggers of late. The email also mentioned Azan Safar, the leader of Gerakan Turun Kos Harga Sara (Turun).

Turun has been actively recruiting people for a rally on the night of Dec 31 at Dataran Merdeka to protest against government policies that has caused the rise in prices of basic necessities.

Azan said the police is now trying to paint the rally as an attempt to topple BN in Putrajaya as a means of distracting the public from bread and butter issues.
