Fight for Kajang, KJ tells BN

Umno Youth feels that BN should vie for the Kajang state seat in the event of a by-election following the resignation incumbent assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh of PKR.

Its chief, Khairy Jamaluddin said it made more sense for the BN to join the fray as PKR adviser Anwar Ibrahim was announced as the opposition candidate.

He said BN should not give Anwar an easy passage.

"The resignation resulted from PKR internal problems. The opposition leader is already desperate.

"After failing to become the prime minister, becoming a menteri besar is good enough for him," he told reporters.

Khairy said Lee's resignation on Monday sent a clear message to Kajang voters that their mandate had been ripped off.

On the choice of BN candidate, he said let that be determined by BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak.

Meanwhile, Khairy described Selangor PAS Youth's intention to boycott the Kajang state seat by-election as a sign of disappointment with PKR.

"They have purposely vacated the seat just to resolve problems within PKR and in the interest of a certain individual," claimed Khairy, who is also the Umno Youth chief while commenting on aMalaysiakini report on the matter today.

Malaysiakini stated that the Selangor PAS Youth has threatened to boycott the by-election if PKR fails to provide a reasonable written explanation on the issue.

In a related development, Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the wing is fully prepared to back the candidate chosen by BN for the by-election.

"We're just waiting for the BN supreme council's announcement.

"We're not afraid that the other candidate is Anwar Ibrahim," said the Masjid Tanah member of parliament, adding that PKR's internal conflict would give BN an advantage.
