KLIA2 repair works to begin right away


Rectification work will commence immediately to tackle the cause of the delay in handing over KLIA2’s main terminal building to Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), said joint venture partners UEM Construction Sdn Bhd (UEMC) and Bina Puri Sdn Bhd.

In a press statement late yesterday evening, the JV partners confirmed that they have yet to receive a Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) for their KLIA2 work package due to an “unexpected issue” which arose during a follow-up inspection.

Accordingly UEMC-Bina Puri said they have discussed and are working with MAHB as well as the authorities, consultants and architects to address the issue and will begin repair works immediately.

“Public safety is the main priority, thus we will ensure proper rectification works are diligently carried out,” said both companies in a joint statement.

“At the same time, UEMC-Bina Puri JV will work together with MAHB on the next course of action in regard to the issuance of the CCC and the commencement of Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT).”

However, representatives of the JV partners declined to elaborate when contacted by KiniBiz regarding the nature of the issue.

KiniBiz reported yesterday that the issue is damage found in sewerage pipes underneath the main terminal building caused by soil settlement, which is not the first time soil condition has come to the fore as an alleged cause of delays.

“It is possibly a design flaw,” said another source with knowledge of the matter on the damage to sewerage pipes, adding that the contractor responsible has proposed rectification measures to fix the issue...
