Fatwa Council: Cadbury products are still halal

PUTRAJAYA: Cadbury products, which were confirmed as 'halal' before they were claimed to contain porcine DNA, are still deemed so and can be consumed by Muslims, according to the National Fatwa Council.

National Fatwa Council Committee chairman Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Abdul Shukor Husin said these products were included in the 'Umum al-Balwa' category (a widespread problem difficult to avoid).

"In the case of ready-made products marketed to consumers and produced through processes using clean and halal ingredients - which were confirmed as 'halal', but certain batches of which were later found to have been contaminated with pig DNA - the committee has decided that it is to be categorised as 'Umum al-Balwa'.

"The ruling on the product refers to the original ruling, which is halal for consumption, as the contamination was beyond the scope of control and difficult to avoid," he said in a statement Thursday.

The Health Ministry earlier detected two samples of Cadbury chocolates, namely Cadbury Dairy Milk Hazelnut and Cadbury Dairy Milk Roast Almond, contained porcine DNA.

Abdul Shukor said Muslims who had consumed such chocolates need not have doubts about the cleanliness of their body nor was there a need to clean their stomach, mouth or change their blood.

"Islam is not a religion that is overly rigid and inconveniences its believers - especially in a situation or action that is beyond their knowledge or control," he said. - Bernama

My comments :   Its Umum Al Balwa ok.  Not umum al bawal. Bawal is a fish. I know some of the confused may get even more confused.

Ok the guy said :  "..nor was there a need to clean their stomach, mouth or change their blood.." How about a brain transplant? Just thinking.

If this DNA issue is big then shouldnt there be DNA tests on rice, tepung, gula, minyak masak, roti canai, all types of bread, mineral water, kicap, lada, rempah ratus etc. I think all sorts of kway teow,  bee hoon, mee (nama pun buke isle) should be tested for this pig DNA. 

I am quite sure that if they use the correct type of electron nanotron super krypton microscope the morons will find a least one strand of Liwat's DNA err...I mean pig DNA in some of these products as well.

As someone said there are millions of pigs in the world. They breathe the same air like we do.  There must be some pig DNA blowing in the wind somewhere. There must be some alchohol in all bread that is made using yeast. As we all know yeast converts sugar into alchohol and carbon dioxide. This makes the dough rise to make spongy bread. 

Since DNA is microscopic, alchohol in bread must also be microscopic. How come bread is still halal? 

I still feel the kway teow, bee hoon, mee, tepung and beras (especially imported beras from Thailand and Vietnam) should be examined using electron microscopes and DNA testing.
