Rayer must face sedition action first, says Jahara

The incident where some 100 men claiming to be members of Umno Youth and Malay NGOs stormed into the Penang state assembly building was provoked by DAP representative RSN Rayer, said state opposition leader Jahara Hamid.

Therefore, the Umno leader noted that the Seri Delima assemblyperson should face action under the Sedition Act before Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng could call for stern action against the mob.

"Rayer (right) not only said 'Umno celaka' in the state assembly but also in public during campaigning for the Bukit Gelugor by-election.

"Such harsh words were hurled at Umno leaders with a political motive," she was quoted saying in a report published onUmno Online.

She was responding to Lim who yesterday urged the attorney-general to take stern action against those who invaded the assembly building.

Commenting on the mob’s action, Jahara said they did not intend to create chaos or disrupt the assembly proceedings but were just looking for Rayer to demand an apology.

"They did not intend to commit a crime because they brought no weapons.

"Furthermore, they came when the assembly was in recess and I myself had openly apologised for the incident the next day," she added.

Following the incident, another group of Umno Youth members held a protest outside the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur andthreatened to torch the building.

Meanwhile, another group attacked the DAP office in Kuantan as well.
