There's no need for alarmist warnings, PKR's N Surendran tells the Home Minister who warned secret societies not to interfere in the Teluk Intan by-election.
The Padang Serai MP, responding to Zahid’s warning to secret societies not to interfere in the Teluk Intan by-election, at a meet-the-people session last night.
“I do not see the need for such alarmist warnings,” said Surendran. “It is an irrelevant and unnecessary statement by an ignorant Home Minister who regularly shoots his mouth off.”
Surendran added that instead of issuing such ridiculous statements, Zahid should instead ensure that any planned or probable attack is investigated.
“Law and order must be maintained as usual. If you know they are going to commit a crime, then action must be taken.”
Surendran believed that although secret societies were not as powerful, they can disrupt the running of a by-election.
“The bigger question is, how has it come to this level? If there is indeed danger, then the IGP (Khalid Abu Bakar) and the Home Minister must make it public,” he said.
Zahid told the crowd yesterday that he had received information that certain quarters had tried to profit from the by-election to be held this Saturday.
