Victory a turning point for Gerakan, says Mah

The Teluk Intan by-election is not just a victory for Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong but a pivotal turning point for his party.

"To me, this is a turning point for Gerakan. I am proud of the cooperation between the BN component parties leading to this victory," Mah (below) is reported as saying by Bernama.

Speaking to reporters after results were announced at the SMK Abdul Rahman Talib hall, he also thanked his voters and BN leaders including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for their support.

This is Gerakan's second victory at the parliamentary level since suffering crushing losses since 2008.

Mah defeated DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud with a tissue-thin majority of 238 votes or less than one percent of total votes cast.

Mah's victory would also mean Gerakan will get a spot in cabinet, as promised by Najib.
