DAP: PAS must work to restore voter confidence

DAP's organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook today demanded that PAS' central leadership immediately "distance" itself from the controversial remarks made by its central committee member in a leaked WhatsApp conversation yesterday.

Instead, he adviced his fellow Pakatan Rakyat compenent party to work to restore voter confidence.

Loke (left) said that Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki's remarks "betrayed" Pakatan Rakyat, and said that any suggestion for PAS to team up with Umno to form a new Selangor government was a travesty to the fact that Pakatan was given a clear mandate in Selangor in the last general elections.

"He must not forget the fact that PAS won their state seats in Selangor thanks to the support of Pakatan Rakyat," he said.

In a statement, Loke also said that he personally "never imagined" that a PAS leader "would have the imagination of teaming up with Umno."

"PAS must state a firm stand to distance themselves from his (Zuhdi's) opinions and take appropriate measures to return voter confidence among Pakatan Rakyat supporters towards PAS," he said.

Meanwhile, PKR's Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin went a step further and asked the pro-unity government faction within PAS to leave the party if "they cannot agree with PAS' agreement with Pakatan Rakyat."

"The agreement with PAS and Pakatan was supported in the PASmuktamar and PAS had agreed to fight alongside Pakatan," he said in a statement.

"Don't become an enemy among ourselves (musuh dalam selimut) and betray promises made to the rakyat," Sim said.

He also blasted the pro-unity government faction in PAS of "chasing power until they are willing to work with Umno who had bullied PAS all along."

'State polls to resolve MB crisis'

Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali (right) also weighed in on the controversy, saying that in view of the crisis surrounding plans to replace the menteri besar in the state, a snap state polls must be called.

"Best is to just dissolve the state assembly," he said, pointing out that he always predicted that the Pakatan parties would not be able to form a strong coalition because they had "different agendas."

"The one who benefited the most from this arrangement is DAP, while PAS suffered the biggest loss. Even though PAS won some seats in the last general election, it's image as an Islamic party has been affected," he said.
