Rayer arrested over involvement with anti-crime patrol unit

Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer (pic) is the latest to be arrested over Penang's Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS).
George Town OCPD ACP Mior Farid Alatrash Wahid has confirmed the arrest.
Rayer had gone to the police station to give his statement at about 3pm today and was then arrested by the police.
He is among the lawyers assisting the 156 PPS members who were arrested by police yesterday.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was outside the Northeast District police headquarters, said Rayer would spend the night in the police station.
He thanked the 21 lawyers who were behind the calls for the release of the PPS members whom he dubbed as "heroes" and "heroines".
The PPS members who were released in stages since yesterday, Lim said all of them would be receiving RM200 financial aid each from the state government.
As for Rayer, Lim said he would be assisted by Bukit Gelugor MP and lawyer Ramkarpal Singh.
ACP Mior, who confirmed the arrest, said Rayer was detained over his chairmanship of the PPS’ Seri Delima constituency-level committee.
"He was arrested about 6pm to assist in our investigation because he is the PPS Seri Delima committee chairman," he said and dismissed claims that Lim would be arrested.
