Dasha Logan, daughter of late Alleycats singer, scores on British music charts
PETALING JAYA: Dasha Logan, daughter of late Alleycats' vocalist Loganathan Arumugam, is herself making waves in the music industry and has notched her first hit on British charts with the single Cleverly.
Dasha's first-ever single rocketed up the UK Soul charts this week to the fourth-place spot.
The stunning 26-year-old said that she only learned her single was a hit on Monday, and was so shocked that she "didn't know how to react".
"I can't believe that I am number four, or even on a chart! It's exciting," said Dasha, adding that she did a "little happy dance" soon after she heard the good news.
The Penangite told The Star Online that she was really pleased with the positive response she received after releasing her single last month.
"I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it moving up on iTunes and Spotify. Now it is also up on sites like Shazam and Soundhound.
"It's amazing because these are the places where I'd look for songs from artists like Beyonce, and suddenly I'm there as well! It's mind-blowing," said Dasha.
Coming from a musical family, Dasha said that her biggest inspiration had always been her family.
"I grew up watching my father perform with the band, he is one of my biggest inspirations," said Dasha about her father Loga who passed away from lung cancer in 2007.
"I always knew that I wanted to be a singer, a superstar - that has always been my goal," she said.
"But I'm now at the point where it (the song) will either go up or down. It will be amazing if it will go up, and I'll be kind of bummed if it goes down. But it has been amazing just being on the list," said Dasha.
The singer-songwriter said that the melody for Cleverly came to her first and she struggled to come up with the right lyrics.
"I remember sitting down in London at an ice rink and I thought about my friend who found out that her boyfriend was married. I remember thinking how sad it was, and then the lyrics started flowing," recalled Dasha.
She finished the lyrics for Cleverly in an hour and said that she was happy with the words because it "fits the song well".
"It's a dangerous song. It's about cheating and telling guys that we are not stupid and we know when something is wrong," said Dasha.
Dasha said she has a new song coming out next year, and has plans to release an album with British label Areaboy.
"It took a lot of vision but everything finally played out. I had to step out of my comfort zone and do something I never thought I'd do, but it has paid off," said Dasha.
"I have to thank my family, who has been so supportive. If it wasn't for them, I won't be doing this," she added.
