awesome MalaySHAH ALAM: The Malay Consultative Council (MPM) will gather about 20,000 new Malay leaders at an assembly in March, next year to move forward in a movement called the Malay Renaissance.
MPM secretary-general Hassan Mad said besides instilling solidarity among the Malay community, the movement also aimed at showing young Malays that they were just as capable as the other races, thus fostering the “awesome Malay” spirit among the community’s younger generation.
“The gathering, expected to be held on March 7, 2015 is also aimed at strengthening Malay unity and fostering cooperation among the movement’s members.
The concept adopted is Malay renaissance among outstanding members of the community towards establishing a prestigious and hallowed movement,” he said at a news conference at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) main campus, here, today. Also present was UiTM vice-chancellor, Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar.
Sahol Hamid said as the biggest Bumiputera higher learning institution in the country, UiTM would gather its academicians and researchers to help make the programme a success.
“We want to boost the education of young Malays … that is why we’ve agreed to be a co-organiser of the programme,” he added.
Besides UiTM, other co-organisers are Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka, Lembaga Tabung Haji and the Malay Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia.
