Sabah residents warned of tropical storm Jangmi

The storm is approaching at 15 kmph and all marine activities should be suspended.
sabah_ribut_300KUALA LUMPUR: Residents in coastal areas of Sabah (Kudat, West Coast, Sandakan and Pedalaman) are advised to avoid participating in any marine activities, especially on January 1, 2015, as the tropical storm ‘Jangmi’ is expected to cause bad weather in those areas.
The tropical storm is also expected to cause rough seas in Sabah waters between December 31, 2014 and January 2, 2015.
Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Che Gayah Ismail said the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC) stated that the storm was currently at 665 km northeast of Sandakan and was moving westward at a speed of 15 kmph.
“The storm can bring strong winds between 50 and 60 kmph, which will be dangerous to all marine activities, including fishing vessels and ferry services,” she told Bernama when contacted here today.
Che Gayah said apart from the coastal area of Sabah, effects of the storm would also be felt by residents in Labuan and Sarawak (Miri and Bintulu).
She said the tropical storm would also cause waves up to 4.5 metres and heavy rain in the areas.
