Vell Paari wants Palanivel to step down

“The ‘truce’ (moratorium) was called because Palanivel was ‘backed in a corner’ and ‘left with no choice’ but to meet with the Prime Minister and his Deputy.”
Palanivel_vell paari_300PETALING JAYA: MIC Kepong Division Chairman, S. Vell Paari, on Thursday welcomed the “intervention” by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in the continued bickering in the party. The Prime Minister, as also the head of Barisan Nasional (BN), is duty-bound to step in, as “things have got out of hand” in MIC, added Vell Paari who is also the son of former MIC Chief S. Samy Vellu.
His father had recently made a derogatory statement in which he said that “the MIC President is not God” but denied that he was interfering in MIC affairs.
Vell Paari an outspoken critic of MIC President G. Palanivel, was commenting on a statement by his party chief. He also noted that Deputy Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, has made a statement on the matter. “I think it’s quite clear to them (Najib and Muhyiddin).”
Muhyiddin had expressed fears that the MIC crisis had gotten “out of control” and does not reflect well on the BN coalition.
Vell Paari expressed the hope that Palanivel will “step down gracefully” after Najib and Muhyiddin meet with him (Palanivel) and Subramaniam.
Palanivel, in a statement on Thursday announced that a “moratorium” was now in effect to enable him and his deputy, S. Subramaniam, to come up with a long term solution, moderated by the BN Chairman.
Palanivel and Subramaniam are also scheduled to meet Home Minister, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the Registrar of Societies early next week. This follows an Appeal lodged by the MIC President with the Home Minister on a directive by the ROS to hold re-elections for three party veep posts and 24 positions in the Central Working Committee (CWC) on the grounds that alleged irregularities had affected the outcomes and rendered them null and void.
Vell Paari stressed that the long term solution for MIC does not lie with just the President and his Deputy sitting down and deciding the way forward for everyone. “The decisions have to come collectively from the Division Chairmen, Women’s Division and the Youth Division in MIC,” he said without citing from the party Constitution.
He claimed the “truce” (moratorium) was called because Palanivel was “backed in a corner” and “left with no choice” but to meet with the Prime Minister and his Deputy.
