Royal rally planned as prince vs minister spat escalates

The 'Johor Royalty vs Nazri Abdul Aziz' saga continues with a planned rally slated to take place at Bukit Serene Palace, Johor Bahru at 4pm today.

Messages are circulating through the social media calling for all Johoreans to convene and show their love and support for Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar (photo) and the royal family.

Nazri, who is culture and tourism minister, had on Saturday warned Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim not to meddle in politics after the prince ridiculed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for not turning up at the 'Nothing to Hide' dialogue on June 6.

In reaction, the crown prince defended his right to comment on national issues.

This is not the first time such a gathering is taking place.

In June 30, 2012, thousands of Johoreans gathered at Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru in a similar manner.

At that time, it was a reaction against former Perak Menteri Besar Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin who made a statement on Twitter on the bid by the sultan for vehicle registration number plate 'WWW 1'.
