DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua says despite telling the Sin Chew Daily reporter on the party's decision regarding the Selangor state assembly, the latter quoted 'mysterious sources' that DAP wanted Selangor MB Mohamed Azmin Ali to sack PAS exco members from the state government. – The Malaysian Insider pic, June 20, 2015.
Pua said Selangor DAP in its meeting on Tuesday decided they did not want to jeapordise the state government, and that the state assembly's dissolution was a last resort, which they did not wish to happen.
The Petaling Jaya Utara MP said a report in Chinese-language daily Sin Chew was "inaccurate and very misleading", and did not reflect the opinions voiced during the state DAP central executive committee's meeting.
"Unfortunately, the Sin Chew journalist on Wednesday refused to accept my brief reply that the meeting decided to discuss everything with the menteri besar as soon as possible.
"Even though I didn't answer the questions, the journalist immediately wrote an article based on mysterious, unnamed sources," said Pua in a statement today.
Pua said it was not surprising that some quarters wished to spread such negative stories, given that the meeting had yet to be held and could determine the future of Selangor.
He said Selangor DAP would raise several suggestions to Azmin for them to discuss together, adding that they would also listen to any proposals from Azmin.
Pua said Selangor DAP welcomed a new Selangor coalition government based on a common policy framework and the state manifesto.
"We welcome this coalition government with PKR and any other quarters prepared to officially work with us politically to achieve that goal," he said.
Sin Chew Daily had reported that Selangor DAP decided, among others, to urge Azmin to replace the three PAS executive councillors.
"We have also resolved that if Azmin is indecisive, we will withdraw from the Selangor government, but this we will do in several steps," an unnamed source told the daily.
On Tuesday, DAP declared Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had ceased to exist following PAS muktamar's motion to sever ties with the DAP.
The next day, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail confirmed PR "no longer functions formally" following the two parties' decision.
But PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang yesterday insisted PR is not dead.
