He said the reports on social media were inaccurate and should not have happened in the first place

KUALA LUMPUR: The fire at the 10th floor of Menara Dua of the Police Headquarters at Bukit Aman here yesterday destroyed papers, books and old newspapers kept at the corridor on the floor, said Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said police would provide their full cooperation to the Fire and Rescue Department to investigate the cause of the fire.
“All kinds of speculation arose in social media, some tried to link it to other cases…all of which were not related while police were merely trying to put out the fire.
“I saw many incorrect reports on the fire disseminated widely on social media…I feel this should not have happened,” he told reporters after presenting awards to 262 police officers at the Police College’s hall in Cheras here today.
Khalid said the 10th floor which caught fire, was still in operation and housed the administration office of the Criminal Investigation Department.
He did not rule the possibility of the fire starting from a discarded cigarette butt.
On another issue, he slammed reports carried by several social media sites alleging police were purportedly investigating Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.
“I do not know she is being investigated,” he said, declining to comment further.
