The application can be used even without Internet connection.
KUALA LUMPUR: Bersih 4 rally organisers are prepared for any eventuality in case of a communication breakdown and are using Firechat that was used during the protests in Hong Kong early this year.
The application will be used as a last resort if there is a communication breakdown, Bersih said in a statement on Facebook.
“We are officially on Firechat which is our last resort for information dissemination, in case the internet goes down,” it said.
Firechat can work without internet to send data. The application jumps from one phone to another within a certain radius through wifi or bluetooth.
The method is unsecured and can be easily intercepted but is sufficient for basic communication.
