Najib, Have You Forgotten How British Queen Elizabeth Insulted You?

Formed in 2006, Bersih had organised 3 rallies in the past – Bersih 1.0 (2007), 2.0 (2011) and 3.0 (2012). The fourth rally, Bersih 4.0, is just days away. The first rally (Bersih 1.0) was instrumental in sending former Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi into retirement, so that the sleeping beauty can sleep for as long as he wishes to.

Prime Minister Najib Razak who took office in April 3, 2009 has seen the best part of the subsequent Bersih rallies – Bersih 2.0, 3.0 and soon 4.0. As an “experienced” prime minister who had been insulted by the British Queen Elizabeth who wore a “yellow” dress to meet Najib and Rosmah four years ago, he should know better than to intimidate Bersih events.

Flashback 2011: PM Najib Razak who had taken over from Abdullah Badawi had gone bonkers by cracking down on everything that was “yellow”. Theyellow was banned and if you were caught with anything yellow in colour, you could be dumped into a police truck. A massive crackdown was carried out raiding hotels in search of yellow demonstrators.

Of course, Bersih 2.0 turned out to be a huge success and would be followed by Bersih 3.0 which had contributed to Najib’s poor performance in the 2013 general election. But judging by how his administration is insulting peoples’ intelligence by declaring the coming Bersih 4.0 as an “illegal organisation”(again), it goes to show that he’s not that clever after all.

In 2012, then Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein had declared Bersih 2.0 an illegal organisation. The Kuala Lumpur High Court then quashed Hishammuddin’s order and declared Bersih 2.0 a legal entity instead. Although not officially registered, Bersih 2.0 could be considered a society under the Societies Act, said the judge.

Fast forward 2015 today, the same Home Ministry but under Zahid Hamidi displays its arrogance of power and stupidity by ignoring the high court’s ruling and self-proclaimed that Bersih 4.0 is an “illegal organisation” because it is not a registered organisation. Of course, they knew Bersih 4.0 is an event, not an organisation, and their intention was purely to create confusion.

If that was not enough to show the regime’s ignorance and disarray, enter Barisan Nasional strategic communications director Rahman Dahlan. He tweeted that Bersih 4.0 rally would bring more harm than benefit, especially to the economy, with the prospect of the country losing billions and the local currency ringgit weakening further.

However, the genius Mr Rahman seems to be okay if Bersih 4.0 is postponed. We’ve since googled but couldn’t find any financial wisdom that says ringgit will collapse specifically on Aug 29 and 30 – the date for the 34-hour Bersih 4.0 – but not other dates, if the rally proceeds.

Wait a minute; didn’t his boss Najib just declare we’re lucky because his brilliant move of taxing 30 million Malaysians through 6% GST has shielded the people from any financial meltdown? Do we need to repeat what Governor Zeti has said about the country’s strong economic fundamentals? So, suddenly a 34-hour Bersih 4.0 event is as disastrous as an alien invasion?

Perhaps pro-Najib bloggers have over-estimated Najib’s intelligence. In what could be another boring fist-raising and chest-thumping Bersih event, it has now attracted more curiosity and participation simply because the government freely promotes them through arrogance, abuse of power, intimidation and stupidity.

Actually, Najib and his band of pirates are freaking worry that their own UMNO grassroots would be joining the rally, out of frustration and anger because of their president’s inability in offering a “credible and believable” explanation about the RM2.62 billion found in his personal account.

Most importantly, these UMNO supporters would quietly join the rally together with others and the number could be overwhelming. Hence, it would be quite impossible for Special Branch to gauge the “real opposition” strength without PAS’ participation, simply because the “noises” from UMNO supporters wouldaffect the statistics.

For example, should Special Branch report to Emperor Najib that there were 100,000 unhappy people on the street when in fact 30-60% were UMNO grassroots? Or should they just report there were merely 1,000 demonstrators, knowing very well that by truncating two zeroes would make their big boss very happy?

Sure, Najib’s new gangster – Zahid Hamidi – could unleash UMNO’s gangsters the same way they did it during Low Yat’s cell phone theft fiasco. But with the country’s present economic volatility, it would be a suicidal mission if their plan was to create another bloody racial riots just to justify an Emergency declaration. -financetwitter
