Sacked Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) officer Jessica Gurmeet Kaur has abandoned her legal challenge, sources said, following confirmation by the Immigration Department that her permanent residency had not been revoked.
In a press statement issued through her lawyer Lim Chee Wee this evening, Jessica said she was grateful to the director-general of Immigration, Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim, for confirming that her permanent residency was not revoked.
"I would like to thank my lawyers for their relentless efforts for my cause.
"I further request the media to respect my privacy so that I can move on peacefully with my life," the brief statement said.
Lim declined further comment when contacted.
The Malaysian Insider understands that her legal team filed a judicial review earlier this week to challenge the supposed revocation of her permanent residency.
The source close to the legal team said there was no remedy to be obtained through legal means since the department has not breached her rights.
“She will withdraw the application since there is no cause for action," the source said.
On Tuesday, Mustafa had said he had not received any directive to revoke the permanent residency of Jessica despite reports claiming otherwise.
Her lawyers then wrote to the department to seek confirmation of Mustafa's statement.
The Singaporean, who has lived in Malaysia for 20 years, was involved in the task force probing into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion channelled into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal bank accounts.
She headed the task force secretariat, administration and finance department.
