STUNG BY 'QUEEN' JIBE, ROSMAH'S AIDE GIVES DR M CAMP A SHELLING
Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin has courted brickbats from Rosmah Mansor’s aide for claiming that sultans are needed to prevent the prime minister and his wife from becoming king and queen.
"A former Utusan (Malaysia) editor and cabinet minister said the monarchy has to block the prime minister from becoming a king.
"Has he forgotten what he did when he was in Utusan?
"Maybe he has, but we haven't (forgotten that) everyday he criticised and gave negative perception of the royalty," Rizal Mansor said today.
Rizal was referring to reports published by Utusan in 1992 and 1993, detailing alleged misdeeds by members of the royalty.
This followed the 'Gomez incident', where there were two separate assaults involving members of the Johor royal family, which ultimately resulted in the royalty being stripped of their legal immunity.
Zainuddin was serving as Utusan's editor-in-chief at the time, and later as its editorial adviser.
Rizal pointed out that the former minister was now singing a different tune.
"Now he suddenly wants to be a hero, defending the royal institution.
"This is the same person who can't differentiate between elections and erection," he said, taking a pot shot at a gaffe Zainuddin made in 2007 when he was information minister.
Zainuddin, who is known as Zam, has been critical of the prime minister.
In his blog post yesterday, Zam commented on Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar warning Putrajaya not to fool the people by whitewashing the nation's woes. - M'kini
