In a series of tweets (see image below), for which he got into debates with some other Twitter users, Rahman said that no matter how tempting it was, a banker must not make statements that could cause anxiety in the market.
Using his Twitter handle @mpkotabelud, he posted: “However politically tempting it is, a banker must refrain from making statements which only add to anxiety of the market. That's paramount.”
"Using Instagram to discuss economic issues of great impact to Malaysia is not wise. Use official platform. Don't trivialise the issues".
To this tweet, Twitter user ZHR using the handle @ziadrazak asked: “@mpkotabelud hard to find official platforms when even registered newspapers get shut down for raising uncomfortable facts?”
In response, Rahman who is the Kota Belud MP tweeted: “@ziadrazak He is part of economic committee”.
While he did not name the banker he was referring to, prominent banker Datuk Seri Nazir Razak had occasionally spoken critically of current issues involving his brother Datuk Seri Najib Razak's administration on his Instagram account.
The CIMB Group chairman was included into the new economic committee by Najib in August, set up to consider immediate and medium-term planning to further strengthen the country's economic fundamentals.
Rahman had also posted on Twitter: "Respected bankers don't shoot from the hip and trigger happy. They are composed and calm. Unless of course they are part time politicians!”
"Respected bankers hv great restraint in demeanor &conduct. They dont mix serious economic view postings in between posts of jogging&eat outs!"
