The Selangor Council of the Royal Court is expected to discuss today the false claim made by former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik that the Selangor crown prince had converted to Catholicism, The Star reported.
The report also said that it was not confirmed yet whether the Selangor palace would accept Rahim’s string of apologies over the matter.
The former chief minister reportedly apologised three times in the last four days, with the latest apology posted on his Facebook page yesterday, where he wrote: "With regards to my postings on Twitter and Facebook on the matter of DYTM Raja Muda Selangor converting to Catholicism, I admit this was from an unsubstantiated website.
"I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences and distress it may have caused DYTM Raja Muda Selangor and Istana Selangor."
According to the English daily, the Sultan’s private secretary Datuk Mohamed Munir Bani and Tengku Amir Shah's private secretary Hanafisah Jais have lodged police reports.
It also said the police interviewed several people regarding possible motives for the publication of the false news.
The report also quoted palace sources as saying that if Rahim had not been so gullible and had bothered to do some basic checking, he would know that the conversion story came from a satire website called World Daily News Report.
