The south Malaysian state of Johor wants to secede, and earlier on the east Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak wanted to pull out of the Malaysia Agreement, and the island of Penang wants to become a Special Autonomous Region like Hong Kong. Is Malaysia cracking up?
While their reasons are wide and varied, it stems from the controversial 1MDB fiasco and the RM 2.6 billion “donation” that was banked into prime minister Najib Tun Razak’s personal account. Both Najib and Rosmah are now the target of a growing many Malaysians wanting to get rid of the duo.
Leading the charge is former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad. Mahathir is absolutely livid with rage that Najib and Rosmah, through their controversial wheeling’s and dealings, are steering the nation towards catastrophe and bankruptcy.
The numbers of Malaysians that are up in arms with Najib and Rosmah are rising rapidly and they are seething with anger and rage at how the country has being going to the dogs ever since Najib took over as paramount leader of this nation.
While Malaysians of all walks of life rant and rave and curse and swear at Najib and Rosmah over their abuses and atrocities, the First Couple are nonchalant and unfazed by the mounting vitriol that is being hurled at them by having a hide as thick-skinned as an elephant.
Unseating the First Couple
There have been a number of serious attempts to unseat the First Couple by Mahathir and his followers such as the Bersih rally, the reports lodged locally and overseas by Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Matthias Chang, who have since been incarcerated under Malaysia’s Penal Code for sabotage and others.
There was, in the early stages of the unraveling of the 1MDB fiasco investigations by a Special Task Force comprising the Attorney-General’s chambers, Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Royal Malaysian Police.
The Public Accounts Committee was also roped in to conduct an inquiry as well as the Auditor-General’s office. But all these investigations and probe appear to have been stymied as powerful, unseen hands went to work to make finding out the truth to be of no effect.
These powerful, unseen hands created such a furor among Malaysians as it was obvious and plain for all to see that the truth and the actual culprits involved in misleading and abusing the “rakyat’s” money eluded being apprehended and convicted.
This caused a malaise upon right-thinking Malaysians as they became increasingly frustrated and realized that it was really a gargantuan task to unseat the First Couple as the two began to dig even deeper and to shore up their defenses.
Storm clouds over the nation
The hard, harsh reality on the ground is that many Malaysians are helpless and weak to be able to mount a real threat and challenge to Najib and Rosmah. If they are weak, it is because they have been made weak by the implementation of GST, the rising cost of living and now toll hikes.
It looks as if ordinary Malaysians have been deliberately made weak that the elite in this country such as Najib and Rosmah may grow stronger and hold sway over them. This is why as storm clouds loom over the nation Malaysians are beginning to appeal desperately to the international community for help.
While there have been random moves by different personalities and different nations in addressing the plight of Malaysians, the oppressive and tyrannical conditions under which Malaysia has become, the moves by various Malaysians appear disjointed and not in unison.
This is why Najib and Rosmah are able to pull out the stops to counter the attacks by those who want to unseat them. This has been going on for some time now and is beginning to drain the people and the nation’s resources.
The internal political crisis that has loomed in this nation between Najib and Rosmah and their supporters and those opposed or against them has become a protracted crisis that has caused the Malaysian economy to deteriorate and regress.
More forceful opposition
Perhaps if Mahathir were to muster a much stronger challenge by rounding up all those who want to oust Najib and Rosmah, if he is able to unite them in a cohesive manner, there is a very strong possibility that their efforts will pay off.
So far, Najib and Rosmah have been able to cling on to power, despite a number of ways and measures being taken to try and get rid of them and this shows that it is not as easy as it looks to remove the deadwood that govern this country.
Living conditions will get from bad to worse under the leadership of Najib and his regime and this is why as many as possible Malaysians must be given to understand the gravity of the situation to give the push to oust Najib as much force as possible.
In legitimate democracies, power is with the people. This is why the people of Malaysia must understand and be educated by politicians that only they have the collective power to remove public officials that are deemed ineffective and do not serve any purpose.
Mahathir and the growing numbers of Malaysians who want to see Najib ousted and get the nation back on the right track must gather together and stand united in their bid to restore democracy as all the attempts made so far have been thwarted and rendered useless. - MAILBAG
