Plan to have football fans write their names and identification card numbers on tickets , says minister
KUALA LUMPUR: Football fans with records as hooligans may be blacklisted and barred from entering stadiums to watch matches.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this move would be proposed by the police and Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
“The ministry is considering making football fans write their names and identification card numbers on tickets to identify the hooligans,” he said in a written reply to Manivannan Gowindasamy (PKR-Kapar) who asked on efforts to address indiscipline among Malaysian football fans.
Khairy told Parliament that Malaysia’s big loss to United Arab Emirates (UAE) was because the players were short on fitness as they had to play a packed league and international friendly matches.
“Several key players were also missing from the line-up due to injury such as Junior Eldstal and Joseph Kalang Tie.”
Malaysia suffered a humiliating 0-10 loss to UAE in an Asian Cup 2019 qualifying match on September 3.
