Putrajaya today said there was no abuse of power in its use of provisions under Sections 124B to 124N of the Penal Code which include offences under parliamentary democracy, sabotage and espionage.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi insisted that those detained under the provisions would have their rights.
"On the abuse of power brought up by the honourable Gelang Patah, it should be stressed that a clear definition has been given in the amendments to the Penal Code," he said, referring to DAP's member of Parliament Lim Kit Siang.
"As such, the police can conduct its investigations based on the law more accurately while related cases will definitely be brought to court for trial.
"In whatever the circumstances, no abuse of power will take place and the rights of the accused are guaranteed," he said in a written reply.
Zahid said to date, seven individuals involving 10 cases were being investigated under the provisions of which two suspects had been charged.
"In this matter, I have no plans to say anything more on this since it is still under police investigation and some are on trial," he added.
