Anwar, RM2.6b and 1MDB highlight PKR congress

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his receipt of what he says is RM2.6 billion political donation prompted PKR leaders and delegates to raise placards on the matter at their national congress in Petaling Jaya today.
'Where is the RM2.6 billion?' read the placards raised by the participants before their lunch break.
Earlier, the heated issues of the RM2.6 billion 'donation' and the 1MDB sage took centre stage during the morning proceedings with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail slamming the government for its numerous fiascos.
Grassroots sentiment was also shown clearly when the PAS representative, secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, was announced as the master of ceremonies.
This was greeted by thunderous claps and cheers far more rousing when compared to the introduction of Parti Amanah Negara and DAP representatives.
These were Amanah vice-president Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus and DAP vice-president Teresa Kok. President Nasir Hashim represented PSM.
"I was quite surprised. I did not expect this. This shows that we can do more programme and be closer to PKR," said PAS vice-president Iskandar Abdul Samad when met at the congress.
"This is not only comforting to PAS but to the rakyat as well. This is what the rakyat wants to see," said the Selangor executive council member.
Meanwhile, the absence of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was also felt with a giant portrait of him set as the stage backdrop with congress's theme - 'Free the people, free Anwar'.
The effigy of prison was erected outside the congress hall and a signature campaign to free Anwar is ongoing throughout the event. Wan Azizah also spoke extensively on her husband during her policy speech. -Mkini
