Sarawak will celebrate the countdown to 2016 tomorrow with a difference.
More than 10,000 people are expected to gather at the Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Bridge in Kuching tomorrow night for a countdown to a toll-free Sarawak.
The toll collection at the bridge will end at midnight tomorrow. The state government had earlier abolished the toll at the Lanang Bridge in Sibu and the Asean Baram Bridge in Miri.
Sarawak deputy state secretary Ose Murang said more than 10,000 people were expected to show up at the event which will kick off at 8.30pm with Chief Minister Adenan Satem as the guest of honour.
He said the event would feature performances by artistes such as Jamal Abdillah, Sarawak-born Dayang Nurfaizah, Amir Ukays and a host of local singers.
“The approaches to the bridge and the bridge itself will be closed from 6pm tomorrow up to the next morning,” he told reporters.
Ose, who chaired the final meeting of the event organising committee in Kuching today, said parking bays were available at Wisma Bapa Malaysia and the surrounding areas as well as the Puspakom area.
He also said that 10 shuttle buses would be provided to ferry people from Wisma Bapa Malaysia and the Puspakom area to the main function area.
