It will not be sub judice for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to speak in Parliament on the controversial RM2.6 billion donation which went into his personal accounts, National Human Rights Society president S Ambiga said today.
"I beg to disagree. It is not sub judice," said Ambiga when met at Parliament.
"The matter is not presently in court. Even if it is, the prime minister is the only one to answer where the RM2.6 billion is and where it came from.
"So, I disagree the matter is sub judice. They are hiding behind sub judice and refusing to answer a very simple question," said the senior lawyer and former Bar Council chairperson.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Said Othman had claimed that attorney-general Apandi Ali had cited sub judice in warning the government against discussing the RM2.6 billion donation issue which he said is still under investigation.
Thus, she said, the government made the decision to answer the issue through a ministerial statement instead of having Najib answer it himself in Parliament today as was scheduled.
