Another brick wall, Dr M's forecast for MACC's appeal

Dr Mahathir Mohamad believes that attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali will reject an appeal on his decision not to file charges against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"I know, I know he rejected a report by the bank. Any report will be rejected.
"Some of those who made the report will be charged in court," he told reporters at the sidelines of a function in Putrajaya this evening.
Mahathir was referring to Bank Negara's findings on 1MDB.
Previously, he also predicted that Apandi would not act against Najib on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations regarding the RM2.6 billion donation and RM42 million from SRC International which were transferred into the prime minister's personal bank accounts.
Yesterday, Apandi cleared Najib of any wrongdoing.
However, MACC special operations division director Mohd Bahri Zin today said the commission would most likely appeal the AG's decision on the cases which he described as being "straightforward".
Later, MACC said it would raise the matter with the commission's operations review panel (PPO).
Commenting further on Apandi's decision, Mahathir noted that the AG ordered MACC to close the files.
"I think he believes that MACC is under the AG. So they must obey the AG," he said.
In a blog posting earlier, Mahathir said that in Malaysia, it is the AG who decides if a law has been broken or otherwise.
"That decision is in fact a judgment. The AG is both a judge and prosecutor. This in itself is an injustice.
"I admit I was not shocked when the AG decided that the report by MACC did not show the prime minister (had) committed any criminal act. I had already said it would be his decision," he added.
Mahathir has been on a campaign to oust Najib, whom he once endorsed as the right candidate for the top post, but now blames for numerous misdeeds.
Najib has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or abusing public funds for personal gain, attributing such allegations on those conspiring to topple him.
Meanwhile, Apandi also denied accusations of not being independent, insisting that he would look at the cases without fear or favour. -Mkini
