Armed Forces help build temporary bridge across Sg Lebir

A temporary bridge is being built by the Malaysian Armed Forces connecting Kampung Pemberian and Kampung Manjor in Kuala Krai to replace the bridge across Sungai Lebir that collapsed due to strong currents following the floods a few days ago.
Commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade, Brig-Gen Zarondin Md Amin, said the bridge was being built by a team of five officers and 90 members of the 7th Squadron Royal Engineers Regiment (7th Squadron Regiment) and the 16th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment based in Camp Desa Pahlawan, Kok Lanas in Kota Baru.
“The 80-metre long temporary bridge is built using two sets of ‘Jetfloat’ with 1,600 units of floating platforms specifically for pedestrians only.
“The ‘Jetfloat’ is suitable for use in various climates and can withstand strong winds and high waves and also accommodate a loading capacity of about 30 tonnes,” he told Bernama in Kota Baru today.
He said the construction of the bridge led by commanding officer (7th Squadron Regiment), Maj Mohd Salim Mohamad, began at 10am today and was expected to be completed by 10am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Kampung Pemberian Federal Village Security and Development Committee (JKKKP) chairperson Zulkifli Omar said the construction of the bridge would provide facilities to nearly 2,000 people.
