Kamalanathan now a Datuk



Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan was conferred a datukship by the Sultan of Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'Adzam Shah at the Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, today.
He was among 68 conferred awards at the ceremony.
"My most respected humble salutations and gratitude to His Royal Highness Sultan of Kedah for his kind benevolence in awarding me the states Dato title. I'm very humbled by this huge honour and will strive to be worthy of it," the MIC leader said on Facebook.
The investiture ceremony - held in conjuction with the sultan's 88th birthday - was also attended by Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.
In his speech, Mukhriz said he hopes the federal government will provide further aid to Kedah in facing global economic uncertainties, Bernama reported.
He added that Kedah is committed to achieving success despite any adversities, like its football team which emerged top of the Premier League and runners-up in the Malaysia Cup.
