Its special operations director believes proposals are satisfactory as officers not called for further discussions despite it being a tradition with past AGs.
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) believes Attorney-General (AG) Apandi Ali is satisfied with their proposals and recommendations on the SRC International and RM2.6 billion “donation” cases that they completed investigations on.
MACC’s special operations director Bhari Mohamed Zin told FMT that traditionally, when it came to high-profile cases, the AG would call on the MACC for further discussions.
“Previous AGs, from Abu Talib Othman to Gani Patail, would call on the MACC’s top management or at the very least, the investigating officer, to discuss the facts of the case, proposals and recommendations put forward by the MACC,” he explained.
In these discussions, MACC wouldl be queried on the facts, proposals and recommendations with the outcome being the AG’s final decision on the case.
“In the SRC International and RM2.6 billion cases, the MACC has not been called for further discussions and I believe that this is because the AG is satisfied with the MACC’s proposals and recommendations on the cases,” said Bhari.
He added that the MACC had earlier resubmitted investigation papers relating to both cases together with responses to the queries raised by the AG.
It was previously reported that the AG had sent the investigation papers on the two cases back to the MACC, requesting additional information on suggestions and recommendations made on the two cases.
