Police assure safety at Thaipusam amid terrorist fears

The police today guaranteed it will be safe to attend the Thaipusam festival at Batu Caves this weekend.
Selangor police chief Abdul Samah Mat said police personnel have been deployed to patrol the Sri Subramaniyar Swamy Temple grounds since Jan 15 and will continue until the festival day on Jan 24.
This comes after the region was placed in high security alert following the attack in Jakarta last Thursday by the IS militant group.
“We have arranged enough security personnel to guard the safety…
“We have tightened control at the temple since Jan 15 and several discussions have taken place.
“The public need not worry about safety,” Samah told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam today.
