After police questioning, Dr M says might share same cell with Anwar

© Provided by The Malay Mail Online After being by police, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he was prepared for the consequences and he would continue to speak my mind even if it meant going to jail. — File picPUTRAJAYA, Feb 24 — Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today suggested he could be nemesis Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s neighbour in the Sungai Buloh Prison, after the former was questioned over a blog post criticising the government.

He revealed that the police who questioned him over his blog entry titled “AG to AG” had fielded over 30 questions, some of which he said he declined to answer outside a court of law.

“I’m prepared for the consequences as my concern is on the people and this country, and for this, I will continue to speak my mind even if it meant going to Sungai Buloh and sharing the same cell with Anwar,” he told a news conference.

Anwar, who was once Dr Mahathir’s deputy, is currently serving a five-year sentence for sodomy.

Three police officers interviewed Dr Mahathir at the Perdana Leadership Foundation for almost two hours this afternoon over the blog post he wrote on February 5, following reports lodged against the former prime minister.

In the post, he attacked Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali for his decision to close the cases on a former 1Malaysia Development Bhd unit and the RM2.6 billion deposited in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s accounts in 2013.

The police are investigating Dr Mahathir under criminal defamation laws that prescribe punishments of up to two years’ jail, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Dr Mahathir today insisted his attacks against the administration were not for selfish reasons.

He also denied that his allegations of corruption against Putrajaya were harming the country’s economy.

“I am doing this for the future of this country and if you ask if I am prepared to go to jail, I will say if you stick your neck out, you must be prepared to get it chopped off,” he said.

Separately, Dr Mahathir said he would join the March 27 protest against Putrajaya if he was invited.

The protest was mooted by former de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim as a display of Malaysians’ desire to uphold the rule of law.
