Congrats to young scientist, but what about other great Malaysians?

YOURSAY ‘How would a guy in space eating nasi lemak improve my quality of life?’
Vijay 47: On an individual level, we, the whole country, are all proud of the achievements of scientist Hafizah Noor Isa, however intimately or remotely involved she was with the milestone discovery.
But cloying appreciation and adulation by people like you brings us down to earth with a thud. Such is the reality in Malaysia.
Have the achievements of other Malaysians been welcomed with such enthusiasm, bar Lee Chong Wei? At best the regard, if not disinterest, is lukewarm.
Remember how Dr Mahathir Mohamad allegedly treated the news that the first Malaysians to reach the peak of Mount Everest were two Indian Malaysians? Did anyone ever believe that the Indian Malaysian lady would make it to space, kopi-tarik or not?
Yes, we all know, certain bowlers have bright futures while other karate exponents must beg for their supper.
By all means, encourage Hafizah. She is brilliant, young and has a great future. The biggest favour you could do for her is to leave her in Glasgow where she will be shielded from our racism and yes, our newfound piety.
Cks: Professor Mohamed Ridza Wahiddin of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) Malaysia, can't you tell the difference between 'contributor' and 'co-author'? There are 1,004 contributors who have played a role in the project and our Hafizah is one of them. She did not co-author, or co-write as you put it, the said paper by BP Abott.
Stop reminding us of the first Malaysian astro-tourist fiasco, we all know what his role was. Stop shouting Malaysia Boleh, it rings extremely hollow and it won't score you points with your political masters, it was a previous PM’s battle-cry.
Anonymous 2336891439170985: She is one of the slightly over one thousand participants in the project. The three most senior top three researchers were named potential Nobel Prize winners but not the others. We should be asking why the three fellas but not her?
The Analyser: Did anyone care to ask why she is doing her PhD in the University of Glasgow instead of a third rate excuse for a university? Just look at them grovelling for a minute crumb of someone else's achievements to justify their own existence.
Mojo Jojo: As the saying goes: the proof in the pudding is in the eating. All this aggrandisement and awe is premature, not knowing her exact contribution to the space project. So, Malaysia joins the ranks of countries sending men to space. Big deal. How would a guy floating in space eating nasi lemak and satay improve my quality of life? Creating a hero out of a zero. Malaysia Boleh!
Vent: Well done and well said, Hafizah Noor Isa! The government could learn a thing or two from your humility and wisdom.
Dr Suresh Kumar: I applaud her humbleness and her wish for more deserving 'Malaysians' to be sent overseas for research-related work in science. Wish you well, Hafizah.
Anonymous 2299391436500295: The actual Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (Ligo) apparatus is in the US and therefore if the central researchers there ultimately receive the Nobel, it will of course be considered a Jewish conspiracy in Malaysia.
AJ: If you are good you are good and deserve all the adulation. It's good that you didn't want to stand on the pedestal that some Malaysians have built to the point they say you should be conferred the Nobel prize. Now they probably will say the Nobel prize is a Jewish conspiracy.
You are extremely fortunate that you are a Malay as the matriculation programme recognition, the road to your current success, is only what others can dream of. I wish that some day the BN machinery will provide equal opportunity to all those who deserve it, just like you said.
Now I also wish you stay grounded when you are home and continue to push for equality alongside achieving greater heights, ignoring parties who want to cash in with what you have done.
Middle path: A name among a thousand. Nevertheless, credit should be given where credit is due.
Legit: Good video. Besides the humour, it has a strong message for voters in Sarawak.
Odin Tajué: The Malay used in Sarawak is not Bahasa Melayu. It is a Malay dialect specific to that region in Borneo. Try using the Malay spoken by Sarawakians to communicate with Malayans, and you will find that the latter (Malayans) won't understand much of what you are saying. Here is a simple example - Mun nya si mao, si boh aja.
Buttman: Regardless of the artistic quality of their CNY videos, these DAP personalities are at least charming and befriendable - and well worth our generous support!
Ib: Video or no video, with RM2.6 billion in the war chest, Sarawakians will happily vote for BN. Are Sarawakians that principled? Are they not just like anyone else, happy to take the money and close both eyes? After all, they were the ones that helped their previous chief minister allegedly become so rich!
Which reminds me that it's probably double or triple RM2.6 billion, as the retired chief minister also allegedly has another war chest. Unless it has all been taken out to some other country. -Mkini
