Don’t be so full of yourself, Nazri advises Mukhriz

Minister also says Mukhriz Mahathir acted childishly when he said he hoped new MB Ahmad Bashah would not "fall asleep" during his swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Nazri Aziz has lambasted outgoing Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir for thinking the latter was chosen by the people.
Speaking to FMT, Nazri said the political system in Malaysia was different from that of the United States of America, where its president was not chosen along party lines.
“I want to ask him, when did he contest [for the post of MB] as an individual? Our system is unlike America where Barack Obama contested as an individual. There is no survey stating he (Mukhriz) had the full support of the people.
“Janganlah perasan sangat (Don’t be so full of yourself),” the outspoken Nazri advised Mukhriz.
At a press conference this morning, Mukhriz announced his wish to relinquish the post of MB with immediate effect, stating that it was due to his no longer commanding the support of the majority of Kedah’s assemblymen.
Mukhriz, however, also took a potshot at his successor Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah by saying that he hoped the Bakar Bata assemblyman would not “fall asleep” during the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.
Reacting to this, Nazri, who is Tourism and Culture Minister, slammed Mukhriz for the remark and said, “I think it is vicious, personal, of low class and childish.
“He (Mukhriz) should be sacked, not up to the standard, he can’t say that,” Nazri said in defence of the new MB.
Nazri also said that Umno would have no problems with Mukhriz continuing his criticisms of the party because even when he was the MB, no one was affected by his remarks.
“He can speak. When he was the MB, we let him speak up and it did not affect us. When he was holding the post [of MB], he commented on many things. We were not affected at all.
“Now when he’s got nothing, let it be,” Nazri said.
