Mukhriz steps down, Bashah new Kedah MB

After two weeks of political turmoil in Kedah, Mukhriz Mahathir has agreed to relinquish his post as menteri besar.

According to Bernama, Kedah Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah will replace Mukhriz as the new menteri besar.

Mukhriz made the announcement at a press conference at the state administrative office in Wisma Darul Aman today, ending the long-fought battle with Kedah Umno leaders who wanted him to step down.

Mukhriz decided to quit after being informed by the Regency Council that he has lost the confidence of the majority of the state's assemblypersons.

Twenty-one BN and 15 opposition assemblypersons out of the 36-member state assembly expressed their views to the Kedah Regency Council on Monday and Tuesday.
